Lets work for Hope

In Islam education is very important for both males and females,
particularly young children. Contrary to common perception the seeking
of all types of knowledge - be it academic, vocational, religious or
secular - is encouraged at all ages. However, learning at an early age
is thought to allow the mind to concentrate without the stresses and
responsibilities of later adult life.
If you go back to history of world, we can clearly distinguish that
the harmony and peace for the nations was brought by the education.
Plato about 400-350 B.C talked about education and attainment of
knowledge in “Republic”. Greece and Macedonian state were one of the
main centres of learning and later on Egypt took over this position.
Romans established centre of learning but the rate of education
advancement was low. Then in later half of Islamic Banu Umayyad
Caliphat in 8th century, modern education started taking its present
shape. Modern subjects like chemistry, Biology, physics, astronomy were
introduced in centre of learning like Baghdad and Alexandria. Banu
Abbasid took care of scholars and educators as religious offering for
them and gave facilities. It was this period of history when mankind
without any discrimination was transmitted the blessings of science all
over. Whether it was Spain where Muslims developed the water and
sanitation system or Astronomy Centre of Central Asia Russian
Turkistan. Europe till the end of 15th Century was totally lost in
ignorance exception of few contributions by Galileo and Leonardo De
Vinci. The education cycle started converting to Europe when Muslims
started falling into Religious misguidance.
From last 300 years Muslim world is not able to do a single
invention. Most poor nations are Muslims. Economically 52 countries of
Muslims don’t even contribute to the 10% of world’s economy and by
numbers they are 30% of the total countries in world. If we narrow down
the scope to Pakistan, we see the lowest literacy rate in the region,
where we are almost on same economical position as compared to others.
Pakistan has one of the lowest literacy rates in the world and
according to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural
Organization (UNESCO), it is 55 per cent and Pakistan stands at 160th
in total countries of the world. 50 million illiterate citizens.
Primary school enrolment was less than 70percent and even in this, as
many as 30 percent get dropped out before acquiring basic literacy
skills.
This indeed is a very alarming situation and a challenge which
must be met with resolve, determination, and action. Illiteracy is a
matter too serious to be left to the government alone, and each and
every citizen must rise to the occasion to contribute his or her part
to bring right of literacy to about 50million Pakistanis. Every Citizen
of Pakistan at least should try to analyze the situation and look
around them that where they can help out to bring education to young
ones and builders of nation. When we look at the aspects that what
education can do that every country’s progress is determined on the
amount of research papers they are producing annually. A literate
person can become a skilled labor easily with the help of technical
education institutes; a literate person can easily judge what is right
and wrong happening in the society and can lead the country towards the
right direction. Nations are building on the basis of awareness of
right and wrong. Education basically brings the sense of knowing and
identifying the rights and wrongs and hence leading themselves towards
right direction. This ultimately refers to the terminology commonly
been discussed all over the world as INDIVIDUAL LEADERSHIP. So if we
focus on giving education to every man, woman, child off course then
ultimately this will lead to a whole a nation of leaders who can lead
the world in every field they get in.Now, I f we look at the statistics
of women education in Pakistan, they are very depressing
Pakistan consists of 52% of women population and adversely women don’t
have high literacy rate. Adult literacy rates are 54.8% for men and 25%
for women (Labor Force Survey 1996-97) and, especially, the literacy
rate of women in rural areas (15%) is less than a third of that of
women in urban areas (50%). Iran has 50% of its work force as women and
they have been inducted in every field of life.
This is the dire need of time that everyone in the society upholds
the national task of education for everyone. A common example can be,
if a girl is doing a domestic work for someone, the people who have
hired should arrange proper education for her also. Same goes for child
labor all over the country. I f a single person gets to reach out for
one person, then there is no doubt that we can convert 50 million
illiterate population into productive and better human beings of the
society and the citizen of the world.

Two points that clash somewhat:
"In Islam education is very important for both males and females" - How then do the supposedly religious Taliban justify the denial of education to women?
AND
" Greece and Macedonian state were one of the main centres of learning" - Alexander the Great himself did not think of himself as anything but Greek, so why do you make a distinction here?
Yes, nilum you are right. De Greek it seems to be that many people judge Islam by the deeds of the Taliban. The Taliban are not real Muslims. A genuine Muslim has to treat all women with respect and educate his children, male and female.
The mark of a true Muslim is that he/she shows respect for all others.
The Taliban are barbarous and do not represent Islam in the slightest.
once again i must thank you for educating me. this hub is not only very informative but has richness and depth as well....thx 4 share
Its Superb Nilum
"From last 300 years Muslim world is not able to do a single invention."
"Most poor nations are Muslims."
I will really appreciate it if you can revisit the above mentioned statements taken from this hub of yours. You'll find both of these to be wrong.
You posted a couple of statements which I believe are wrong because this is not true that Muslims haven't invented anything in past 300 years and most poor nations are not Muslims.
Can you provide a valid source from where you got this information?
Did you say Liberia? LOLOL
Someone judging others' IQ and general knowledge doesn't even know that only 20% of Liberian population is Muslim. Wait, till I get time to read more of this funny stuff.
Did you provide me this link as a reference: http://www.mapsofworld.com/world-top-ten/world-top
6 out of the 10 nations mentioned in this link DO NOT FOLLOW ISLAM. And you speak of IQ and general knowledge? What would you say about a person's IQ whose references go against her or him(in case your teacher provided it)?
Talk facts to me lady. It is always good to take one's words back instead of trying to prove something with references that go against you.
I just don't want the facts to be altered and I do not believe in the blessed nation things in that sense.
And thank you for the prayer. God bless you too. I can understand the catharsis.
Excellent work. Thank you for sharing. GBY
Thank you nilum, we share the same opinion about the importance of education in Islam, regardless genders.
Such a noble intent, Nilum. My hope that your voice would be heard.
Take care :)

This is an informative hub. You are very right about literacy being the important thing to improve the conditions of a people and country. Islam teaches that all people, men and women, should educate themselves. It is the duty of Muslims to learn and better themselves.
I hope the day comes that everyone in the world can read and write.
I cannot imagine a life without this ability but I was lucky to have been born in England and had the chance that so many millions in the world do not have.
